Every fifth bank loan an NPL – The total amount of NPLs RSD 404.34 billion
As the NBS says, NPLs made up 21.58% of total loans on December 31, 2015.
Gross corporate NPLs accounted for 20.88% of total loans on June 30, 2016, whereas household NPLs accounted for 10.34%.
NPLs in the banking sector in Serbia on the same date amounted to RSD 404.34 billion, the NBS says, based on the monthly reports submitted by banks.
The NBS says that business entity NPLs amount to RSD 176.7 billion, whereas household NPLs amount to RSD 73.43 billion. Most of the rest of NPLs, according to the NBS, relate to other legal entities – non-financial sector in bankruptcy.
As they explain, a non-performing loan implies the level of outstanding debt on individual loan balances, including the overdue amount, where the payment of principal and interest is 90 days or more past due its original maturity date.
NPLs are also loans where interest at the quarterly level and longer was ascribed to the loan balance, capitalized, refinanced or delayed, as well as those where payments are less than 90 days overdue, but the bank has assessed that the borrower’s repayment ability has deteriorated and doubts that the payments will be made in full.
