Minister of Mining and Energy, Aleksandar Popović, announced on Friday (January 18, 2008) construction of mini-hydroelectric power plant in the vicinity of Štrbac in Kosovo. It is the investment worth 3m EUR.
This power plant would be producing about 12.5m kWh on annual basis, which is 50% of overall needs at the moment of the highest consumption of electricity. In this way, the problem with power supply to National Park "Brezovica" would be solved.
- The Government of Serbia will send an official proposal to UNMIK next week for donation of electric energy to Serbian population in Kosovo and Metohia - said Popović during the visit to south Serbian province.
In order to try to resolve long-lasting problem with the shortage of electricity in Kosovo, it was suggested that EPS should deliver 24-24.5m kWh this winter to 13 zones on the south from the Ibar river.
