The mayor of Belgrade Sinisa Mali signed, on Saturday, June 18, 2016, at the Palace of Serbia, a Memorandum of Understanding with the representatives of the Chinese companies Africa Investment and Development Co (Zhang Chun) and China Machinery Engineering Corporation (Wang Xingye), with the goal that they may invest in, develop and work on the project for the sewage treatment facility in the City of Belgrade, reports Beoinfo.

- Belgrade currently dumps all its sewage directly into the Sava and the Danube, which is a great ecological issue, something that a European capital can’t afford to do – pointed out the mayor and added that the agreement was worth EUR 500 million and that 14 such facilities would be built.

Mali said that, following the construction of the facilities and the realization of the public-private partnership project for the landfill at Vinca, the City of Belgrade alone would have achieved around 70% of the national goals within Chapter 27 on environmental protection.
