SAP software helping the German national football team

Continuing the co-innovation partnership which began in 2013 and led to the team's victory at the 2014 World Cup, SAP has helped DFB to plan their game strategy for Euro 2016, included two new DFB-exclusive prototypes which run on the SAP HANA Cloud platform.

SAP Challenger Insights helps the team prepare for each match in the European Championship by providing insight into the data regarding the opponent's attack and defense tendencies, formation tendencies etc. By accessing the data through the SAP HANA Cloud platform, the coaches are able to get an overview of the tactical characteristics of the opposing team and design the projected plan of the match. The data is available through iPads which the players have in their lockers, before the match or during the half-time, and see the projected plan of the opposing team's game, which enables the team to get to know the opponent's tendencies and view the previous video clips.

Penalty Insights Function for SAP Sports One is the new functionality run by the SAP HANA Cloud platform, which enables the goal keepers and their trainers to gain insight into the penalty kick tactics of all teams and players in the championship. The team can search the first five or more players who are the most likely to shoot penalty kicks, parts of the goal most frequently targeted, specific characteristics of the kicks, such as the way a player runs, and to view the accompanying video clips in real time.

Using its success at the 2014 World Cup, SAP has made thorough changes to the previously published technologies which played a significant role in the German team's success in winning their fourth trophy.
