Europe wants skilled workers – Dual education gives opportunities for employment and stronger growth
Speaking in Leskovac, State Secretary of the Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development of the German Federal Government Hans Joachim Fuchtel promoted dual education as an opportunity to reduce youth unemployment and improve economic growth.
On his visit to a Leskovac school for textile and design, the guest was also shown a training centre whose opening was supported by the German organisation for international cooperation GIZ. The centre carries out basic practical teaching which is continued in the local sock factory Falke.
“Europe needs a high quality work force especially in the textile industry”, said Fuchtel, “so we are appealing to parents not to prepare children for university or high school, rather to encourage them to finish vocational school, which will give them a better chance of finding work though dual education.”
GIZ is also announcing a public-private partnership with Falke thanks to which this company will receive 50 young and expert workers over the coming year. During his visit to Leskovac, Fuchtel also visited the town's Roma community for whose employment the German organisation Help has contributed over EUR 1 million.

Hans Joachim Fuchtel also spoke with Mayor Goran Cvetanović, who observed that, thanks to support worth several million by the German development bank, the town will renovate 40km of water mains on the Veternica, adding that his town's local government is among the first in Serbia to provide the right conditions for the arrival of the supermarket chain Lidl.
