Possible founding of combi-society in Serbia, investments in intermodal terminals, rolling road, ro-ro technologies...

At the meeting of the Group for Railway Transportation, the Association of railway transportation and telecommunications of Chamber of Commerce of Serbia asked from the Railways of Serbia to found National Society for Combined Transportation (combi-society). At the moment there is no base for realization of combined transportation, because there are no intermodal technologies in Serbia (transportation of goods in one vehicle that uses several forms of transportation)

Toma Jeftić from CIP pointed out to the lack of contract on transportation of goods with neighboring countries, due to which all packages are treated as special and are charged at the highest tariff. He pointed out that it was necessary to introduce measures that would regulate that field, i.e. founding of combi-societies, construction of intermodal terminals and introduction of rolling road technology (ro-ro technologija – truck on freight car, truck on ship)

Since 2003, Serbia has lost over €4m because it has not had ro-ro technology. Construction of one intermodal terminal costs about €2m.

President of the Association of Railway Trasnsportation of Chamber of Commerce of Serbia, Stojan Petković, pointed out that the Railways of Serbia should be founder of combi-society, in which it would have about 30% of ownership, as much as freight-forwarders.

The group that will negotiate with general director of the Railways of Serbia, Milanko Šarančić, on founding of combi-society was formed at the meeting. (Pregled)
