Market Zeleni venac, future pride of Belgrade, to be open in 2007 - €6m
Moving of the counters from "Zeleni venac" market started long time ago. Heavy machines will start to tear down the wall of the oldest green market in the Balkans in two weeks. The agreement between the City and Public Utility Company "Gradske pijace" has been concluded, each of the sides will be paying half of the expenses. The first prognosis shows that the citizens of Belgrade will be able to buy things on the market with world looks starting from 2007. Until then, they will have to supply themselves on the neighboring markets.
The counters will be moved to the Zemun market "Gornja varoš", in the streets around Zeleni venac - Lomina, Kamenička, Kraljevića Marka and the yard at 5-7 Jug Bogdanova Street.
The only confusion concerning "Zeleni Venac" is still parking lot. "Pijace" hopes that the administration of all 125 parking places for automobiles and trucks will remain its right. However, the opinion of the City is that the parking should be charged by "Parking servis", and that "Pijace" should have at its disposal only space necessary for unloading of goods and parking place for supplier. Heads of this public company say that investment in "Zeleni Venac", which will cost both them and the City about €3m each, will not be paid off if they don’t collect the payment for the parking. Their calculation is that invested means will be returned in ten years if they charge fees for all 125 parking places, whereas if they don’t, the invested money will be paid off in 21 years.
