BOGOSAVLJEVIC BOSKOVIC: Longer period of land lease for large investors
- We need large investments in agriculture. Investors who want to increase production in the field of pig and cattle breeding and the rest of the agriculture industry are necessary. The current level of investment is low. There is so much untapped potential. A vast expanse of state-owned land is uncultivated. That is why the new Law on Agricultural Land will enable long-term lease of land to investors - said Bogosavljevic Boskovic.
When asked if the Law would open the door for foreigners, she stressed that everybody would have absolutely equal treatment and that "foreigners won't have greater rights than local farmers and investors."
The minister underlined that there were 490,000 hectares of state-owned land in Serbia, a half of which was uncultivated at the moment.
She also noted that it would take more than a year to make progress in agriculture, especially given the circumstances from the last year, such as floods and disruptions in the European agricultural and food products market caused, primarily, by sanctions imposed by the EU and Russia.
