All 77 millions EUR gathered for renovation of “Gazela”

European bank for renovation and development, city of Belgrade, public company “Roads of Serbia” and European Agency for reconstruction have gathered 77 millions EUR, which is the cost by evaluations of the renovation of “Gazela” bridge with accessing paths, as it was announced on the web site of Belgrade’s electronic newspapers.

- We are planning to renovate 1.384 m of bridge on the left coast of the river Sava, 2.145 m on the right coast, 486 above the river and 463 on the accessing path, said the director of “Roads of Serbia” Branko Jocic.

“Gazela” was not renovated for more than 3 decades, and 165.000 vehicles passes it daily, and at the time it was built they predicted a traffic of 38.000 vehicles on daily basis.

- We will try to make the traffic more easy by using the turning point around Belgrade, with which we will combine closing of tracks with constant switching and also night works. And besides that it was also requested an additional 50 millions EUR from the National Investment Plan in order to speed up the works on the section between Ostruznica and Bubanj potok. – said Jocic.

However, even if the organization of the traffic is good in the beginning, a half year later we can expect problems, as there will be starting of reconstruction of Pancevo’s bridge.

The city and the Republic are not thinking about the esthetics not so ever because of the lack of financial means and for now the only thing important is maintenance of existing bridges.

As announced, the reconstruction of Pancevo’s bridge will start most probably in March on next year, and renovation of the Old Sava bridge is also certain.
