Belgrade will host the 56th annual conference of the General Assembly of the European Association of Pharmaceutical Full-line Wholesalers (GIRP) at Hyatt Hotel on June 8-9. Participants in this two-day event will be addressed by Serbian Economy Minister Zeljko Sertic, Chairman of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce (SCC) Marko Cadez, Serbian Health Minister Zlatibor Loncar, GIRP President Rene Jenny, and Miomir Nikolic, the president of the SCC Group of Pharmaceutical Wholesalers, the SCC announced in a release.

GIRP is an international non-profitable organization with the headquarters in Brussels, which brings together pharmaceutical full-line wholesalers. It has 37 full members, 26 of which are national associations of European countries, and brings together over 750 pharmaceutical wholesalers operating in 31 European countries. GIRP promotes the role of wholesalers in the improvement and preservation of public health and supports the jointly defined policy for ensuring safe and continuous supply of drugs for all patients in Europe. It also has an important role in the preparation of legislative and regulatory policies that directly affect the operations of pharmaceutical wholesalers. GIRP represents the interests of its members before the highest organs of the European Union.

The Serbian Group of Pharmaceutical Wholesalers, which operates as part of the Association for Pharmaceutical and Medical Economy of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce, joined GIRP in 2011 as a full member, that is, with the voting right. This was a great success because GIRP changed the criteria for accepting new members in its Statute to make it possible for Serbia, which is not a EU member, to get a full membership.
