Regional landfill construction in Subotica starts

Regional solid waste management system for the needs of the city of Subotica and municipalities Kanjiza, Senta, Backa Topola, Mali Idjos, Coka and Novi Knezevac, should start working in less than two years since the construction of the regional landfill construction at Bikovo and Orom should start this spring, based on the contract signed in August last year. The works on the construction start and other activities were announced through the business program of Regionalne deponije d.o.o Subotica which has been in the adoption stage in municipal assemblies.

The head of the Regionalne deponije d.o.o. Subotica, Andrea Kikic, outlines that modern solid waste management system will comprise regional sanitary landfill and waste selection facility, transfer stations with recycling yards in Backa Toploa, Senta and Kanjiza, as well as recycling yards in Subotica, Coka, Mali Idjos and Novi Knezevac, equipment for waste collection and primary selection, vehicles for distant transport where education of citizens should be included as well.

The head of Andrea Kikic outlines that grants for landfill construction were provided from sectoral program "Environmental protection, climate and energy " from EU IPA funds in approximate amount of EUR 17 m.

Contractors for regional landfill construction was selected at the international tender and the contract was signed August 28 last year , and the day of implementation start of the contract was October 28, there has been 17 months that the contractors have been available for the completion of the work totaling EUR 14.891.167. Contractors (IBI IDROBIOIMPIANTI from Italy, Instel Inzenjering Novi Sad, SET Sabac), until January 28, 2017, should finish all works on construction of the regional landfill complex. At the time time, they should end construction of transfer stations and recycling yards in the region as well as construction of connections to basic infrastructure where preparations in municipalities have been ongoing, and this year, tenders for selection of contractors and signing of the contracts for construction which would end in 2016 should be carried out.
