KIRBY: American companies want to double investments

Some American companies in Serbia want to double investments, the USA ambassador in Serbia, Michael Kirby said and estimated that Serbian government during the previous year succeeded in making difficult reform decisions for starting economy.

-There are American companies already investing here and which would double the investments in Serbia. There is Noble Environmental Serbia in Kraljevo, operating in recycling of cardboard boxes and which has been expanding business and soon it will start processing straw and to produce something like plywood but without pollution - Kirby said last night for N1 television.

He said the company has 75 people and that in a few months, it will hire 50 more.

He outlined that in previous year, many laws were adopted which are implemented now and that he is glad Serbia achieved agreement with IMF and made a step forward towards the World Bank.

As difficult factors for Serbian government, he mentioned that it is the fact, as he said, is trying to enter in economic environment of Europe where there is no true growth and is burdened with Ukrainian and Greek crisis.

Kirby mentioned that last year Serbian government also faced May floods which made its work more difficult. The American ambassador expressed his satisfaction for the fact that the Government of Serbia in the previous year initiated the dialogue with Kosovo, i.e. with the fact that the dialogue was not neglected.

When commenting failed negotiations of Esmark and the government for the sale of Zelezara Smederevo, Kirby mentioned that there are difficulties in steel industry worldwide and that some famous companies in that industry announced losses and much lower profit.
