China's first low cost carrier Spring Airlines plans to ask competent bodies again for a permit to introduce cheaper seats on its planes, that is, standing seats.

This idea first came from Wang Zhenghua, the chairman of the Spring Airlines Managing Board, back in 2008, when the celebration of Chinese New Year caused a shortage of railway and flying tickets, the company's spokesperson said on the Chinese national radio station.

- It is necessary to meet a lot of conditions, reach an agreement with aircraft makers, get the green light from authorities, and to convince clients it is the right thing to do - the spokesperson of Spring Airlines explained.

If this proposal goes through, the company is ready to start providing this service right away, he added. Similar initiatives were earlier launched by Irish low-cost carrier Ryanair and some other airlines. However, implementation of this idea fell through because of flight safety regulations.

Spring Airlines used to offer promo flying tickets at ultralow airfares of about CNY 9 (USD 1.4).
