The Governor of NBS, Radovan Jelašić, estimated that total inflation in Serbia in the first quarter of 2007 would be lower than 5%, while the basic inflation would be less than 4%. He pointed out that the stability of prices was mainly the result of the restrictive monetary policy.

He reminded that, at the end of August 2006, NBS had planned the frame of the basic inflation in 2007 between 4 and 8%.

Jelašić said that the inflation would be somewhat bigger in April due to seasonal increase in prices of early fruit and vegetables, as well as due to increase in prices of oil derivatives.
