New declaration for food export to EU as of December 13, 2014 - Potential alergens clear labelling compulsory
Goods of Serbian exporters of food products and supplements for
EU markets (EU) as of December 13 must be fully labeled in line with the new
Regulation EU 1169/2011 o informing consumers on food.
This regulation precisely sets labelling terms, labelling of packed and
unpacked food, as well as specific terms for food advertising, and it provides
a high level of protection of consumers, right on regular and clear information
on food.
The most important new things which the implementation is bringing primarily refer to an obligation of ingredients labeling, which can cause allergies and intolerance in the list of ingredients outlining them in different letter, style or the color of the background.
Minimal size, place of origin, country of origin, the manner to state shelf life, the name of food must contain data on physical condition of food, apart from the name, it is necessary to add a number of warnings if a product contains caffeine, phyto-sterols and many other substances.
-There is really a number of changes and the implementation of this regulation does not leave options to producers to deliberately or undeliberate "seduce" consumers – dr. Danica Zaric, the head at IHIS Nutricionizma and a member of the working group for development of regulation on food and medical declarations said.
She outlined those food products exporters, if they are not sure about their EU declaration, must check it thoroughly, because she added “the most expensive product is the one which waits at the border”.
