Sapphire Serbia: When recycling is not an option, co-processing is the most responsible method of waste management
Waste disposal at landfills should be the last option! In cases when there is no possibility of recycling the waste, the most responsible method of waste management, socially and ecologically, is co-processing. Co-processing entails the use of waste instead of fuel and raw materials necessary for the production processes at facilities such as cement furnaces and other energy-intensive industries. Waste is fully taken care of through co-processing, while its built-in energy and minerals are renewed, a process which doesn't endanger natural resources.
With the help of modern technology with the highest environmental protection standards, Sapphire annually treats considerable amounts of solid renewable fuel derived from waste industrial products, municipal waste, rubber and other kinds of waste.
Alternative fuels are first sent to the cement factory in Popovac near Paracin, a member of the CRH Group since 2015. Co-processing at cement furnaces at high temperatures, of over 1,370 degrees Celsius, enables a total thermal destruction of the waste. This saves on fossil fuels, the mineral content is integrated into cement and no additional waste is produced. During the co-processing at cement furnaces, the fine limestone powder retains the heavy metals, which are not released into the atmosphere, but fully incorporated into the product in a safe way, thereby reducing the intensity of the emission of CO2 and gases which lead to the greenhouse effect.
More than a half of the waste that utility companies most frequently put into landfills can be reused. That is why Sapphire Serbia cooperates closely with municipalities in preparing smart solutions for waste issues. The company takes waste which can't be recycled from sorting lines from municipalities and then sorts the municipal waste, waste from households, textile and other forms of waste.
Sapphire is a reliable partner to companies which help preserve the environment through responsible waste management and have good corporate reputation. Fractions of sorted industrial waste are treated at Sapphire's platform in Popovac. Waste similar to municipal waste, mixed industrial plastic and other solid wastes are treated efficiently. As a member of CRH Serbia, it also offers a responsible solution for wastes originating in various production processes, such as floating ash, slag, scale etc.
The company's services are used by numerous clients from the automotive and the electronic industries, production of consumer goods, production of textile and furniture. Sapphire Serbia offers solutions for waste handing to producers, which are in line with sustainable development principles and are economical above all. After a precise analysis, Sapphire's experienced team secures the optimal solution for the waste which is not recyclable. The company also helps its partners find solutions for specific projects, such as the solving of old ecological problems and providing technical solutions for various specific kinds of waste.
Sapphire takes full responsibility for waste management, while complying with all the laws, the European waste management hierarchy, the quality standards and the regulations pertaining to occupational safety. By preventing the generation of waste matters and promoting efficient waste management, Sapphire Serbia helps the community preserve its natural resources and protects the nature for future generations.
