Ecological and Active Packaging, Potential Solutions for Reduction of Plastic Disintegration and Increasing Product Shelf Life
Dealing in innovations entails knowledge, research and a vision. Radovan Jovanovic, one of the company's directors, explained to us that, in addition to the standard plastic packaging that the company produces, Uniplast also develops new, environmentally friendly products. Said Eco Friendly glass packaging and active packaging with an active masterbatch are such products.
The special characteristic of this type of packaging is that it is an ecological product which aims to preserve the environment.
– The Eco Friendly product is a glass box with an “eco” cap. The cap is made of a mixture of plastic and wood flakes. The production technology aims to reduce the emission of CO2, the consumption of fossil fuels and the length of the disintegration of the plastic. We thereby also contribute to a reduction of plastic waste. This kind of packaging is an ecological solution for the packing of natural products – says Radovan.
The second innovative product is the active pharmaceutical packaging. It was made as part of the project financed by the Innovation Fund from the budget of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development, through the project for the improvement of competitiveness and employment. The project of an active packaging is an innovative solution which entails combining plastic, zeolites and silver ions to produce a packaging that will be safer for consumers. The purpose of the product is to extend the shelf life of the content, with the use of preservatives reduced or eschewed altogether. As such, the packaging is suitable for any industry where there's a need for the shelf life of the products to be extended in a natural way.
