J. D. Salinger’s son Matt has confirmed for the first time that the late author of The Catcher in the Rye wrote a significant amount of work that has never been seen, and that he and his father’s widow, Colleen O’Neill, have been working with the material since 2011, the Guardian reports.

Salinger died in 2010 in Cornish, New Hampshire, having left a fairly small body of work, as he didn't publish anything after 1965.

Matt Salinger explains that his father did not want to be a part of the literary world.

J. D. Salinger published his most famous work, The Catcher in the Rye, in 1951, and his last work published, the short story “Hapworth 16, 1924”, appeared in The New Yorker in 1965.
