A wealth in items used as bookmarks

We use various items as bookmarkers and often forget about them and leave them there when we return the book to the library. TV Prva reported about objects that are sometimes found between book covers.

Goran Marinkovic has worked at the University Library for eight years now. In that time, he has seen various unusual bookmarkers in borrowed books.

When he found the first such bookmarker five years ago, he decided to research this microworld. His collection now features around 300 objects and Goran is looking forward to each new discovery.

He works at the Book Acquisition Department, so each book goes through his hands.

The collection, which he has named “The Microworld of History”, contains love letters, court orders, a membership card of the U.S. Library of Congress, seaside vacation lists, old banknotes, a long forgotten floppy disk, a playing card, an unpacked tea bag and even a part of a tampon.

Members have occasionally also “returned” their own money along with the book...
