NASA is preparing new missions to the Moon, which entails three phases. They are announcing the beginning of preparations for the new mission within which the astronauts will first visit the new base in the Moon’s orbit.

According to NASA’s estimates, several technological goals need to be met before the human foot touches the Moon’s surface. The first one involves the construction of a new kind of spacecraft.

NASA wants to complete the space launch system project needed for the transport of larger modules.

This will enable three missions. The first one includes the launch of an unmanned spacecraft, called EM-1, which will go around the Moon and return to the Earth.

The second mission, EM-2, will involve a human crew, whereas the third one is supposed to enable the reaching of the Gateway space station located in the Moon’s orbit.

The station will be the destination for all scientific and commercial missions to the Moon, thanks to a universal anchoring system, as well as a range of technological solutions which will facilitate the analysis of samples from the Moon’s surface, science portals report.

NASA warns that, before they send a human crew on this flight, they first need to develop certain technologies through trial and error and that they therefore consider a ten-year deadline very optimistic.

They are also planning to build a spacecraft capable of landing on the Moon’s surface and setting off from it without a problem, a technology crucial to the crew’s survival.

NASA also plans to contact private companies with which it will build small robot systems for Moon exploration and then upgrade them or replace them with manned systems. Experts claim that missions which include human crews will not head towards the Moon before 2026.
