Legendary “beetle” to be retired
The production of the legendary German car is to stop after 80 years.
In other words, the “beetle” is to be retired, as confirmed by Frank Welsch, head of technical development at Volkswagen, at the Geneva Motor Show.
The famous “beetle”, which has proven irresistible for decades and which has changed a lot through the years, while still remaining essentially the same, appeared on the car scene in 1938 and lasted until 2003, when a modern generation of models was presented. The last model arrived in 2011.
Slow progress in the market is cited as the reason for the discontinuation.
The good news for “beetle” owners is that this has lead to a jump in value.
