In choosing destinations to travel to, we are often limited by a tight budget, which influences a number of decisions when it comes to taking a trip.

Reddit users have shared the strangest and silliest things they’ve done in order to save money while traveling. Although the comments feature a variety of experiences, a lot of the tricks deal with having a limited budget.

– Spending nights in an airport/bus/train station so as to not book a hotel – says one of the comments.

Those taking return flights scheduled for early morning hours are advised to spend the night at the airport so as to avoid paying for staying at a hotel for only a few hours.

– I used the gym to have a workout and a free shower after an overnight travel to Chicago. My connection was at 3 Pm and I don't want to waste a day’s hotel expenses. The day pass cost me USD 10.

Some users have worn extra clothes so as to avoid paying for excess luggage.

Travelers looking to save money often save money on food, whether by gathering coconuts on a Thai island, having a meal with local residents, or surviving on hostel kitchen rice and beans.
