Facebook testing downvote option
“Downvote” will be available to users in order to give negative ratings to comments they don’t like.
The popular social network has confirmed for global media that they are testing the option, but a spokesman says that their goal is for this to be a method of hiding negative comments to public posts.
Once the user clicks on the “downvote” option, the comment will be hidden from their view, and Facebook will ask them if the comment is “Offensive”, “Misleading”, or “Off-Topic”.
–We are not testing a dislike button. We are exploring a feature for people to give us feedback about comments on public page posts. This is running for a small set of people in the U.S. only – a Facebook spokesperson said.
Mark Zuckerberg promised to make great efforts in 2018 in redefining the way his company gave priority to posts. The idea is for users to see posts made by their friends and family more often than notifications by organizations, companies and media.
By providing users with the possibility of influencing public behavior on the internet, modeled after recent developments on Reddit, Facebook will have a better insight into the topics and the discussion people are interested in. This way, the social network wants to stimulate meaningful interaction and circumvent public insults, just as it is currently turning people’s attention to fake news.
