Google to employ 10,000 people to “clean” YouTube
The company will employ several thousand reviewers in order to reduce the amounts of problematic content on YouTube. It will also implement stricter ad restrictions and use smart technology increasingly more.
– By 2018, Google aims to have more than 10,000 people “working to address content that might violate our policies” – YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki said in a blog post. She didn't say how many people controlled offensive content on the site at the moment.
– Some bad actors are exploiting our openness to mislead, manipulate, harass or even harm – she said.
YouTube has faced a series of controversies this year over videos available on the site. They adopted additional measures of protection on YouTube Kids last month, as reports showed that many videos contained profanity and violence.
The company is not only increasing its workforce, however. The algorithms it has implemented have helped remove more than 150,000 videos showing violent extremism since June.
