It hasn't been two months yet since the construction of a Mercator facility started in Valjevo, and a foundation stone has already been laid for the second hypermarket in that city on the Kolubara river. In the location between the Railway Station and the settlement Oslobodioci Valjevo, the French company Intermarche started the construction of a shopping center worth EUR 1.5 million on Friday (23 March 2012).

- Construction of an Interex hypemarket, which is going to employ 40 people from Valjevo, commenced Friday. Intermarche's 2,500-square-meter shopping center should open September 2012 - Valjevo Mayor Zoran Jakovljevic announced to eKapija.

Zemun-based Grading has been entrusted with the construction of this facility, while subcontractors are companies from Valjevo.

Jakovljevic confirmed to us that the German discount store chain Lidl as well would open a hypermarket in Valjevo.

- Lidl is interested in a land lot near the western gate of Krusik, spanning 60 ares – said the mayor of Valjevo.

Lidl has announced that it is not going to open facilities sporadically because its business policy is such that they first buy and equip locations and then open a series of stores almost at the same time. Zrenjanin was the first city in Serbia to sign a land purchase agreement with the German discount store chain Lidl on March 20th.

People in the city on the Kolubara expect to get one more hypermarket, which will be built by Tempo that has just received a location permit.

- We've been informed by people at Tempo that they decided to add some new facilities to their hypermarket, such as coffee shop and restaurant, which is why they now need to make some changes to the design - Zoran Jakovljevic stressed.

The mayor of Valjevo pointed out that the first hypermarket in Valjevo would be finished in May 2012.

- Mercator should open its facility in the location of former Remont until May. The Slovenian shopping center will employ about 80 workers.

Mercator started the construction of a 3,500-square-meter hypermarket in Valjevo on January 31st. That company plans to invest over EUR 2 million in it.
