The company Mercedes Benz sold about 1,200 automobiles in Serbia in 2010, about 700 of which are passenger cars, while the rest are commercial automobiles, said Andreas Binder, Mercedez Benz Director General for Serbia and Montenegro.

He told Beta agency that the company expected the sales in Serbia to be 10 to 15% higher in 2011, that is, that between 1,400 and 1,500 vehicles would be sold.

According to Mr. Binder, the year 2010 was not easy for Mercedes Benz because of the economic crisis, but it was the most successful year in the company's history because it sold the total of 2 million vehicles world wide, about 1.3m of which were passenger cars.

Mr. Binder added that, unlike other companies, the company Mercedes Benz survived the global economic crisis because it had been building a base for years in the past and developed a recognizable brand, as well as because it was ready for such situations.

At this year's 49th International Motor Show in Belgrade, which will be opened tomorrow, Mercedes Benz will exhibit about 30 of it's models, three of which will have their premiere in Serbia.

The most expensive model of that company is a vehicle of make Maybach, worth EUR 570,000, and it will be on display in the hall 3 of the Belgrade Fair.

The International Motor Show will gather about 410 exhibitors from 25 countries. Part of this show will also be the Sixth International Trade Fair of Motorcycles, Parts and Equipment, which will gather about 50 exhibitors. Both events will be closed on April 3.
