- Strengthening economic and business connections between the municipalities in broader area of Podrinje through promotion and establishment of more intensive cooperation and partnerships between small and mid-sized enterprises on both sides of the Drina river is the aim of the project implemented by the Branch Office of the Republic of Srpska in Serbia - it is announced by the people from the Ministry of Economic Relations of the Republic of Srpska.

Participants in the project will be 13 municipalities from Serbia (Sid, Sremska Mitrovica, Bogatic, Loznica, Sabac, Mali Zvornik, Ljubovija, Valjevo, Bajina Basta, Uzice, Cajetina, Priboj and Kosjerić) and 12 municipalities from the Republic of Srpska (Bijeljina, Lopare, Ugljevik, Zvornik, Bratunac, Vlasenica, Han Pijesak, Milici, Srebrenica, Visegrad, Rogatica, Rudo).

The Ministry of Economy and Regional Development of Serbia and the Ministry of Economic Relations and Regional Cooperation of the Republic of Srpska will back the project and participate in its realization.

With the aim of successful implementation of the project, equal participants in the project are also regional chambers of commerce from the Republic of Srpska (Bijeljina and East Sarajevo) and regional chambers of commerce from Serbia (Srem, Valjevo and Uzice).

Through promotion of intermunicipal and regional cooperation, as well as the cooperation between small and mid-sized enterprises, this project will contribute to the improvement of economic competitiveness of this region by creating new opportunities for employment and investments.

Realization of the project should put an end to the number of problems that the whole Podrinje region is facing, including large number of unemployed people, poor transportation and economic infrastructure.

The project will stimulate regional cooperation between the municipalities and small and mid-sized enterprises through joint resolving of concrete problems, and the plan also includes preparation of the Strategy for further development of Podrinje as a framework and a guideline for improvement of economic cooperation in the region.
