(Dejan Šoškić)

The Parliament of Serbia appointed today (July 28, 2010) Dejan Šoškić as the new Governor of the National Bank of Serbia (NBS) for a six-year mandate.

All 129 MPs voted in favor of Šoškić.

The Parliament previously adopted the decision on termination of the position of previous governor Radovan Jelasic who resigned from his post on March 23, 2010, for personal reasons.

Šoškić has been nominated for the position by Serbian President Boris Tadic.

Dejan Šoškić was born in Belgrade in 1967. He graduated in 1989, earned M.A. degree in 1993 and Ph.D. degree in 1999 at the Faculty of Economics in Belgrade.

He was a lecturer in Financial Markets and Institutions, Financial Management, and International Business and Economy at graduate and MBA courses at the University of Nebraska, Omaha, USA.

He received specialist training in the field of financial markets at universities in the USA on three occasions (1994, 1998, 2002) and once in the Central Bank of Switzerland (2001).

Mr Šoškić was a Fulbright alumnus and member of the Presidency of the Scientific Association of Economists.

He served as a special financial markets adviser in the National Bank of Yugoslavia (late 2000–2002), economic policy adviser in the EU Policy and Legal Advice Center (2002-2003), and a member of the Council of the National Bank of Serbia (2003-2004).

He authored the book “Securities: Portfolio Management and Investment Funds”, and co-authored publications such as “Financial Markets and Institutions”, “Economic Statistics” and “Stock Exchange Glossary”.

He has published more than 40 articles and papers in the field of financial markets and institutions and transition in Serbia.
