Minister of Finance of Republika Srpska, Aleksandar Džombić and a Polish Ambassador Andrzej Tyszkiewicz to BiH signed an agreement between the Government of RS and Poland for obtaining a loan to fund a project of the RS railways.
The Polish government approved a loan to the Government of RS amounting to 20 million EUR for the purchase of 200 freight wagons and relating equipment.
These freight wagons should arrive in the next two years, when they leave the manufacture facilities.
The director of the "Željeznice RS" ("RS Railways"), Petko Stanojevic specifies that the delivery time of the wagons "is yet to be defined" by the contract waiting to be signed.
He claims that those are modern train cars, with 22.5 tons per axle, for a speed of 120 kilometers per hour.
Railway lines of Željeznica cannot produce that speed, but Stanojevic convinces that "they correspond to " the railway lines, and that the current tracks "are being modernized”.
He believes that "Željeznice RS" will built lines from Doboj to Banja Luka that can support the" speed of 120 kilometers per hour”.
Invitation to bid will open soon, he says, “to prepare the railways throughout RS for a 120 km speed”.
According to him, the wagons are important due to the fact that "Željeznice RS" own mainly outdated and used train wagons, whose exploitation license expires in two years. The minister Dzombic, believes that the granted loan is a fair deal, with a payment period of 20 years, grace period of two years and 1percent interest rate.
“For the first time, the assets have been given directly to RS and not to B&H, so that the project could start soon”, said Dzombic.
The ambassador Tyszkiewicz was pleased with the agreement that should open door to Polish investment in RS.
At this time, he is negotiating with the Ministry of mining, energy and industry of RS for a 20 million EUR loan going to the Thermal power plant Ugljevik.
