According to Belgrade's weekly magazine NIN, the state-owned package of stocks in Telekom Srbije will be sold on the tender in October 2010 at the starting price of EUR 1bn.
The magazine claims that the Government of Serbia made such decision after the negotiations with the most serious potential buyer - company Deutsche
Telekom, which already owns 20% of stocks of the Serbian operator through Greek Ote.
The agreement in principle on sale on the tender in autumn was finally confirmed last week, during Serbian President Boris Tadiæ's visit to Berlin.
Although the starting price and the exact percentage of the state-owned package that will be offered for sale have not been determined yet, it is most likely that 30% plus one stock will be offered for sale at the starting price of EUR 1bn.
That is how much Deutsche Telekom needs to acquire in order to become the majority owner of Telekom Srbije.
Deutsche Telekom, as a co-owner in Telekom Srbije, has the right to priority in takeover, which is the reason why the agreement with the Germans is inevitable.
NIN writes that that agreement put an end to long negotiations, during which one of the possible options was the sale through direct deal without tender.
According to that magazine, the idea of the sale through direct deal has been given up because that would require either an interstate agreement (just like for the Petroleum Industry of Serbia) or some kind of lex specialis.
