Preparations for construction of the highway from Paraćin, via Zaječar, to Vrška Čuka, the border crossing with Bulgaria, will start this year.

- The highway, 82.1 km long and 16 meters wide, would have two lanes in one and two lanes in other direction, as well as cloverleaf interchanges, two bridges and four tunnels, and it should be finished in three years - said the Minister for National Investment Plan, Verica Kalanović, after the meeting with the representatives of the Company for Roads, the Directorate for Construction, the Regional Agency for Development of East Serbia and the Management of City of Zaječar.

- The approximate value of this investment is 200m EUR, and it would be partially financed from the Republic budget and partially from the funds provided by international finance institutions - said the Minister.

According to the Minister's words, the highway will be of open type, which means that toll will not be charged.

- This is an epochal investment for this region because it would accelerate the flow of goods and tourists, attract investors and enable development of the whole Timok borderland - Ms. Kalanović pointed out

The Mayor of Zaječar, Boško Ničić, said that bilateral talks would be led with the Bulgarian side, which should build the highway section from Vidin to Vrška Čuka, 10 km away from Zaječar.

Ničić pointed out that the highway was of great importance to the people in the Timok region and that its construction would enable economic development and keep people from leaving the region.
