
The representatives of Serbia and Greece signed the contract on July 3rd on realization of the first phase of project by Scientific-Research and Educational Computer Network of Southeast Europe (SEELIGTH), which will connect scientific and educational institutions in Serbia with the academic network of Europe.
The contract worth 6.1m EUR was signed by the Minister of Telecommunications and IT Society, Jasna Matić, and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece, Militiadis Varviciotis.
Ms. Matić said at the opening of Serbian-Greek forum in Belgrade that the first contract from Hellenic plan, the Greek plan for refurbishment of the Balkans, had been signed.
Serbian-Greek forum in Belgrade was opened in the presence of the President of Greece, Karolos Papuljas, and the Prime Minister of Serbia, Mirko Cvetković.
The project consists of three parts, and today's contract concerns supervision of the project and it is worth 310,000 EUR.
The second part of the project will be worth 5m EUR, and it will concern rental of optical infrastructure for connecting educational institutions in Serbia through Macedonia and Greece with European educational network, while the third part of the contract is worth 700,000 EUR and concerns procurement of network equipment.
Ms. Matić pointed out that that project should be finished prior to year 2011.
Six countries participates in the project - Serbia, Macedonia, Albania, Bulgaria, Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
- Following the completion of the project, young scientists from Serbia will be able to cooperate with the colleagues from abroad, and they will be enabled to compete easier for European projects, as well as to find funds for realization of their ideas -
said Ms. Matić.

Varviciotis, said that the whole project was worth 20m EUR, 80% of which would be provided by Greece, while the rest of the funds would be provided by the countries participants in the project.
