- Privatization of the remaining state-owned packages in local banks will not be forced because the situation in the financial market is unfavorable for that process - said Slobodan
Ilić, the State Secretary in the Ministry of Finance.
- On the other hand, by constantly surveying the situation in these banks, we will try to determine the extent to which the state can be involved in their operations, first of all, through consideration of their liquidity and elimination of any possible problem - Ilić announced.
Ilić reminded that the state had its share in nine banks in Serbia. The first group of banks includes those that are almost completely owned by the state (between 70 and 100%) - Credy banka from Kragujevac, Srpska banka,
Privredna banka Pančevo and Postal Savings Bank.
The second group includes the banks that are majority owned by the state - Čačanska banka and Komercijalna banka - while the third group consists of the banks that are minority owned by the state, such as Agrobanka and Jubmes banka.
He said that the procedure would be similar when it comes to insurance companies that should be privatized, such as "Dunav osiguranje".
- As far as "Dunavosiguranje" is concerned, we are trying to define the dinamics of the restructuring process and we are going to discuss that at the meeting of the Administrative Board of the Deposit Insurance Agency - said Ilić.
He announced that the reduced Strategy for state's treatment of banks and insurance companies would soon be taken into consideration at the Administrative Board of the Deposit Insurance Agency and that it would be then forwarded to the Government for adoption.
According to his words, it is expected that the Government of Serbia will make the decision about forming of the Administrative Board of the Deposit Insurance Agency very soon and that that will be immediately followed by taking of aforementioned Strategy into consideration.
