European Union approved of import of genetically modified corn (GMO). That is the second GMO product that obtained permit for import since EU ended its unofficial ban on import of products of biotechnology in 2004. The corn named MON 863 was developed by American biotechnological giant «Monsanto» in order to make it resistant to insect that causes the disease of the corn. Theoretically, that corn can be sold all around European Union for processing and fodder, but not for breeding. It will have to obtain another permit from EU for use in nutrition of people before the deliveries start, which will take another month.
