MIHAJLOVIC: Early October to see construction of Zezelj Bridge continued

The construction of the Zezelj Bridge at the Danube in Novi Sad should continue in ten days, the vice president of the Government of Serbia and the mister of construction, traffic and infrastructure,Zorana Mihajlovic, said today.

She mentioned that at this week’s meeting of the Government, working conclusion will be made based on which the province and the City of Novi Sad will be able to, within the budget rebalance, plan funds totaling EUR 2,9 m, the amount necessary for funding additional works on the bridge.

Answering the questions of journalists during the international meeting on energy, Mihajlovic outlined that the amount of additional costs was set up by authorities and experts and that the resource ministry which she heads is trying to get the important works which have been halted for two years practically back on the track.


- My task was, if nothing else, to be a mediator, to gather all the interested parties,to allocate the problem and to help in its solving – the minister said,outlining that it turned out that "that everyone is ready and that they want to work".

According to her, with respect to that, the fact that "lot 3" program,based on which the access roads will be funded though EC funds, was approved isimportant.


Mihajlovic outlined the need that contractors provide realistic deadline forthe bridge completion which the ministry will control on regular basis.

The investor the Zezelj bridge construction which was demolished during the NATO bombing in 1999, are Zeleznice Srbije (Serbian Railways) and the contractor is Spanish-Italian consortium of companies, Azvi-Tadei-Horta Koslada.

The project which started in March 2011 is mutually funded by EU, AP Vojvodina and the City of Novi Sad. According to the latest published data, the new bridge should total EUR 55 mil.
