The university complex in Novi Sad, where seven faculties are located, should get ten new facilities, so that, once the construction is finished, total surface of the campus will be 245,000 square meters. According to the detailed regulatory plan (zoning ordinance), the existing capacities of the campus will be doubled, while about 45,000 inhabitants of this "town" will get a new scientific-educational facilities, as well as many contents for students. Part of the money for the planned investments should be provided from the European Investment Bank.

According to the statement given last month by Božidar Đelić, the Minister of Science and Technology Development, major share of EUR 200m worth of funds, which were granted to Serbia by the European Investment Bank in early March for the investments in science, will be directed to Belgrade and Novi Sad, the strongest scientific and technology centers in the country.

- The University in Novi Sad submitted several draft projects worth EUR 25m - rector Miroslav Vesković said on that occasion and added that he expected grants to be given to other research institutions in Vojvodina as well.

Vesković specified it was the aid in construction of the central building of the University, science-technology park, the building of Apart hotel for young scientists within the campus, and the project that concerned the units of the Food Technology Institute.

The Agreement with the European Investment Bank should be adopted during this month in the Parliament of Serbia, which should be followed by implementation of the suggested projects.

- Urban reconstruction of the University complex will significantly enrich its contents and form a harmonious spatial composition within the limits defined by the plan. The building zones are defined in accordance with the universal needs of the University campus as a whole and specific needs of individual departments, with the respect of existing physical structure and spatial characteristics of the complex - graduate architect Marko Stojanović, who is, together with graduate architect Branislava Lukić, one of the project coordinators in public company Urbanizam, the company entrusted with making the detailed regulatory plan, told eKapija.

According to that plan, a new complex of facilities will be built in the Novi Sad campus for the needs of the Faculty of Technical Sciences. The new complex of facilities will also be built for the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, the existing laboratories of which will also be completely reconstructed. An investment in construction of an educational-business facility for the needs of the Department of Civil Engineering and a new facility of the Faculty of Sport and Physical Education is in the pipeline as well. The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences will also get a new facility, while the new building of the Faculty of Agriculture will have two floors.

Construction of Apart hotel 2, that is, the Dormitory for young education-science workers, is also in the pipeline, and that facility will have three floors and comprise a two-floor business facility. The campus will also get two underground garages.

- Such garages will be built in all new facilities of the University, while the users of the garages will be the users of individual facilities. The two garages mentioned before are public garages on the edge of residential zone Liman I and the users do not have to be either employees or students of the University in Novi Sad - Stojanović explained.

One of the planned investments is construction of the student community center and the facility of the Student Cultural Center.

The Novi Sad campus – the youngest town in Serbia

The University campus in Novi Sad is situated on the left bank of the Danube, in the central city zone. Seven out of nine faculties with the headquarters in Novi Sad are located in the University complex. According to the report on the work of the University, total number of students and employees amounts to about 45,000. The surface of the building site defined by the plan is 28.18 ha, while the facilities in the campus were built in the period between 1958 (the building of the Faculty of Agriculture) and 1987 (the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences). These facilities have different shapes, while the number of their floors ranges from one to ten. Three-floor and four-floor facilities are dominant. Total built surface of the facilities for scientific and educational purposes amounts to 122,382 square meters.

The following faculties are situated in the university park in Novi Sad: the Faculty of Philosophy, the Faculty of Agriculture, the Faculty of Technology, the Faculty of LAw, the Faculty of Technical Sciences, the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences and the Faculty of Sport and Physical Education. The Faculty of Medicine is located within the Clinical Center, while the Academy of Arts is on the Petrovaradin Fortress.

In addition to scientific-educational facilities, the University campus also comprises the Student Center, two student dormitories, central student restaurant, a hotel with suites for temporary accommodation of young scientific workers, the Student Health Care Center and similar student organizations.

- The dominant whole is formed around the Dositeja Obradovića Square, which is surrounded by the complexes of the facilities of the faculties of agriculture, philosophy, mathematics and natural sciences, and technical sciences. These facilities represent the finished and harmonious architectural wholes, so that the plan does not include some major works on them - Stojanović explained.

Public company Urbanizam - the Urban Institute of Novi Sad, made the detailed regulatory plan according to the project task of the investor - public company City Development Institute, and the directions it got from the Novi Sad University Senate.
