New swimming pool for the birthday of Spens in Novi Sad - complex at 35,000 square meters of water surface

In 2011, the year when it celebrates the 30th birthday, Novi Sad-based Spens will get the first swimming pool from the future complex that will occupy the surface of over 35,000 square meters. If the required funds are provided, the new complex, worth EUR 15m, may be finished prior to 2014. According to the adopted architectural solution, construction of an Olympic swimming pool, a diving pool with a springboard, training premises, swimming pools for kids and all related contents is in the pipeline. The use of new technologies and materials is expected to cut the energy consumption by over 50% when compared to the existing swimming pool complex, which was built in 1980.

- The outdoor swimming pool will be finished in the first out of four phases of realization, while the works will start during this summer. Between RSD 150m and 200m are needed for these works, 65m of which have been provided by the City, and the same amount has been provided by the Ministry of Sport and Youth. The citizens of Novi Sad may be able to use the new swimming pool already in autumn 2011 - the Director of Spens, Zvonimir Kaprocki, told eKapija.

- The complex will be built in four phases - A, B, C and D. Phase A (6,704 square meters) includes reconstruction and completion of construction of an outdoor swimming pool whose dimensions are 21x50m. Phase B (6,428 square meters) includes construction of a diving pool with Olympic springboard and the stands for 1,500 to 2,000 spectators. The third phase (11,511 square meters) will include construction of an Olympic swimming pool, of which dimensions are 25x50m, and the stands for 7,000 to 8,000 spectators. The last phase (10,671 square meters) will include reconstruction of existing indoor swimming pools and covering of complete swimming pool complex - Kaprocki explained.

The author of the selected preliminary solution, architect Miroslav Krstonošić, preserved the authenticity of the initial facility with the suggested solution because he extended the existing architectural tissue horizontally and vertically from the existing configuration of elements.

Investment activities in 2010

The Director of Spens, Zvonimir Kaprocki, also mentioned the most important investments that Spens made in the previous year, including the swimming pool repair, procurement of new sound system, replacement of floors on the ground floor of SPC and commencement of replacement of ceilings, and added that the works on SPC Vojvodina were resumed.

- The aim of the projected investments in 2010 is revitalization of existing capacities and maintenance of the quality of services. Some of the projects that will be implemented in the following period are construction of additional floor on the existing bawling room and completion of construction of office space on the ground floor at 60 Novosadskog Sajma Street - said Kapocki.

According to his announcements, waterproofing works will be carried out on the plateau and the roof, while the toilets at swimming pools, in locker rooms and in the section with showers will be renewed.

- We are going to procure mobile sound system and stage lighting equipment, and one of the goals is to promote unknown music bands. Also, we plan to have air-conditioning, heating and cooling systems repaired.
