Representatives of the Russian upholstered furniture company Mnogo Mebeli have reached a provisional agreement with local authorities on opening a factory in Vranje, with full support of the Government of Serbia, and they also plan to open a facility in the rented premises of Pamucni Kombinat Yumco, stated Goran Kostic, member of Vranje's economic council, on Tuesday, May 2.

Kostic said for Beta that the first phase of the Russian investor's arrival would take the form of a greenfield investment – the lease of Yumco's premises, until recently occupied by the Italian furniture company Top Sofa.

– There are pre-requirements which need to be met, the premises held by Top Sofa need to be renovated, for which the necessary paperwork and exploitation permits need to be secured above all. The investors are serious, and they visited Vranje last week, when they talked to the city's management and when the provisional agreement was reached – Kostic said.

Co-owner of Mnogo Mebeli Andrey Khodasevich and the director of the newly founded company Spilit d.o.o Vranje, Aleksandar Komarov, talked on Friday, April 28, during their visit to Vranje, with Mayor Slobodan Milenkovic about the plans to open the Russian factory's facility in Vranje.

On that occasion, the investors from Russia signed an agreement on the lease of 8,000 square meters of business premises meant for the production of upholstered furniture at Vranje's Yumco.

As announced, Mnogo Mebeli will employ 350 workers in the rented Yumco's premises in the first phase, whereas the construction of the factory's facilities of 30,000 square meters in the Vranje Free Zone, where 1,000 additional workers are to be employed, has been announced for the second phase, to take place in 2018.
