Nis-Pristina highway to cost EUR 800 m

Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Serbia and minister of construction, transport and infrastructure Zorana Mihajlovic said that the Nis - Pristina highway, which Serbia will build together with EU, will connect more than 100,000 citizens of Toplica region with the most important traffic artery in Serbia, Corridor 10.

Mihajlovic explained that it was planned that new highway route from Nis goes through Merosina, and then through Prokuplje and Kursumlija to Merdare, through Podujevo to Pristina, according to the website of the Government.

- This highway, 77 kilometers long, will cost 800 million euros and will be built by local companies and workers - she said, adding that the project will further contribute to economic development of Toplica.

According to her, Serbia, with the construction of this section, will get the output to another port in the Adriatic - Drac.

- More importantly, she said, is that this highway will connect and Serbs from Kosovo to Belgrade and Nis, where they will be able to get to in more than half an hour – Mihajlovic says.

The Nis-Pristina highway will show that there is no better way to cooperate and preserve infrastructure stability. Everyone is tired of the, we have to live together and work, Deputy Prime Minister said.

When it comes to one of the most important projects for Nis, which is the relocation of the railway from the city center and the construction of bypass railway around Nis, she said that it has already been in progress, that the estimated value of the project amounts to EUR 87 m, and that the preliminary design was produced.

Mihajlovic also announced that, after the end of the third section of Corridor 10 in May, as of the summer season, trains to Sofia and Thessaloniki start operating again.
