Downloading a 100 GB movie in just a few minutes – Samsung presents 5G wireless router

Once the 5G technology becomes globally available, internet connection speeds will be sufficient to allow us to download 4K movies, video games and software in only a couple of minutes, as claimed by experts and reported by the Business Insider.

5G is the next step in the evolution of wireless internet, following 4G LTE, which is currently the most frequent form of wireless technology. At this year's Barcelona Mobile World Congress, Samsung presented its new 5G wireless home router, which allows for speeds of up to 4 Gbps (500 MB per second).

In other words, the speed will enable bulky data such as 50 GM games to be transferred to your smartphone or PC in under two minutes, whereas a 4K movie of 100 GM will download in less than four minutes.

Experts point out that such speeds, unfortunately, can only be achieved under perfect conditions. It is, however, reasonable to expect most clients to be satisfied with routers operating at 50% capacity. Current 4G routers cost around EUR 270.

The price of new 5G routers is not yet known.

As for 5G coverage regarding mobile devices, Verizon will cover certain cities in 2017, whereas the global spreading of the technology is expected in 2020.
