Italian Frisoli offers a solution for Vranje landfill Meteris - Necessary reconstruction and capacity expansion

The delegation of the Italian company Frisoli has recently visited Vranje and sanitary landfill Meteris and expressed interest in working on the expansion of its capacity, said the Town Counsellor for Ecology, Marina Đorđević.

The Italian company constructs waste disposal sites by innovative techniques. In developed countries, this technique is used to extend the life of existing landfills and for implementation of the system of producing electricity from renewable sources.

- It is used to build a wall along landfill basin using waste from the landfill itself. This technique brings a great contribution because it allows a significant increase in the landfill in a range of 30% to 80% - says Đorđević.

The Italian company makes the design of the machine-treated waste which is reinforced by geotextile armor. This design allows the slope of the landfill hillsides to be set to 70 degrees. The patent is used for functional safety and remediation of areas in order to establish a basis for creating a sustainable cycle of waste for future generations.

- Landfill Meteris was built in 2002 and its sustainability period is 15 years, i.e. until 2017, but with this technique the lifespan could be significantly extend - says the town counsellor.

Expanding the capacity of Meteris landfill is already becoming an issue for the local government, because its capacity is filling up at high speed due to which the city government is considering project expansion. The use of this technology would prevent the spread of landfills, and the city would gain time in order to complete the Regional recycling center with the purpose of waste management.

The delegation of the Italian company was led by its owner, Ciro Frisoli, and they had preliminary discussions with the Mayor of Vranje, Slobodan Milenkovic, regarding the drafting of the landfill reconstruction.
