Differing estimates of construction cost delays agreement on Belgrade-Budapest railway

The Belgrade-Budapest railway is very important to Serbia, said Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Zorana Mihajlovic and added that it was in Serbia's interest to modernize the railway in line with the European standards for 200 km/h trains.

She emphasized that it was important to reach an agreement with the Chinese partners on the manner of funding the modernization of the railway as soon as possible. As she specified, the agreement hasn't yet been reached due to differing estimates of the cost of construction by the two sides.

– I expect that we will assess the value of the project in the next month, based on the feasibility study. We're talking around a billion euros – she said and reminded that a part of the section of the railway, the one from Stara Pazova to Novi Sad, was being funded by the Russian loan, on which an annex to the agreement had been signed in June.
