A bridge near the Cacak bypass route by August 20

Deputy Prime Minister Zorana Mihajlovic stated that the bridge over the Western Morava at the bypass route around Cacak needed to be reconstructed right away, despite the tourist season being at its peak, and announced that the construction would be completed by August 20.

Mihajlovic said that the construction season was always at its peak during the summer and that the experts had said that the bridge needed to be reconstructed as soon as possible.

– Also, there's less traffic in cities in July and August, even though Cacak is a transit city. The deadline is August 20. I don't like to meddle with the work of experts and when they say that the bridge needs to be fixed, we set aside the money and support the project – Mihajlovic said.

She also said that Roads of Serbia would step up the construction work in order for the traffic to become normalized as soon as possible.

The acting director of Roads of Serbia, Zoran Drobnjak, said that nothing had been done with the bridge for nearly 40 years and that it was high time for the reconstruction in order to secure its continued usage.

– We were looking for a less busy period, but trust me when I tell you that the bypass route traffic is busier in April or May than it is now. The contractors are obliged to complete the construction by August 20 – Drobnjak said.

In commenting on the initiative by Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic to provide a road for the residents of Goracici near Cacak, Drobnjak said that Roads of Serbia and the Ministry of Construction were financing the construction of a 1.4 km section of that road and that it would be completed in 15 to 20 days.

Drobnjak emphasized that three kilometers of the regional Prijevor road in that area would be reconstructed in August and that road safety would be increased as the sidewalks would be constructed.
