In Q1 2016, Italian bank Intesa Sanpaolo generated net profit of EUR 806 m which is a drop of 24.2 % but the result exceeded market expectations for EUR 100 m thanks to a decrease in non-payable loans in its books.

Market analysts, in fact, forecasted in the first quarter a net profit of Intesa Sanpaolo of EUR 708 m, AFP reports. Operating profit fell due to reduced interest income and fee and commission income.

Intesa expect their new private fund, Atlanta, set up to provide support to Italian banks in solving bad loans issue will facilitate risky loans level even more.
