The European Commission will grant Turkey conditional approval for visa-free travel within the EU's Schengen area, the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) announced Tuesday (3 May 2016), citing anonymous sources.

An official statement on this will be released by the European Commission on May 4th, BBC reports.

Visa waiver for Turkey is part of an agreement reached between the officials of Brussels and Ankara, which also saw Turkey agree to take back migrants that crossed the Aegean Sea and entered Greece.

Turkey still has certain EU criteria to meet in order to be granted visa-free travel, and the decision on conditional visa waiver must also be approved by the European Parliament and EU countries, BBC underlined.
