April to see Zelezara Smederevo privatization agreement signed with Chinese investor - Tender on February 29

Bojan Bojkovic, a member of the Supervisory Board of Zelezara Smederevo, said Sunday that an agreement on the privatization of that Serbian steelworks was expected to be signed in April with a Chinese investor.
- We are about to sign an agreement that will save not only Zelezara Smederevo, but also the economy of Serbia. The magnitude of this investment is close to USD 1 billion, and the investors we're negotiating follow the media in Serbia, so all those who attack the steel plant in Smederevo, negotiations and the vision should really stop doing that because that equals treachery - Bojkovic stressed.
Bojkovic specified that a tender for the privatization of Zelezara Smederevo would most likely be issued February 29th, adding it would be open for about a month and that all submitted bids would then be reviewed to pick the best, after which the talks with the best bidder were expected to take 15 to 20 days.
According to him, Zelezara Smederevo currently employs 5,000 people directly and 18,000 workers indirectly, and it has a potential to help the whole economy to its feet.
