The second phase of construction of solar power plant in Sajan near Kikinda has begun. Serbian Mining and Energy Minister Aleksandar Antic pointed out on that occasion that solar parks were more popular that any other renewables in Serbia, adding that the capacity of all power plants running on renewables in Serbia totaled 8.5MW and that the plan was to increase that capacity to 10MW.
- We have 91 facilities of the kind, eight of which are ground-mounted solar parks. The one in the village of Sajan near Kikinda is one of the biggest, that is, the second largest in Vojvodina and the fourth largest in Serbia - Antic said and stressed that domestic companies and scientific institutions had participated in construction.
Antic reminded that Serbia should increase the share of renewable energy sources in final consumption by 2020 from current 21 to 27%, voicing his expectation that that goal would be achieved, primarily thanks to strong support and incentives from the state for investment in "green energy".
