Eurobasket 2015 officially opened in Zagreb

Croatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic and FIBA Europe President Turgay Demirel ceremoniously opened Eurobasket 2015 in Zagreb last night (3 September 2015). This year's European Basketball Championship will be held between September 5 and 20 in four countries - France, Croatia, Germany and Latvia.

The opening ceremony at the central square in Zagreb was also attended by high Croatian officials - Vedran Mornar, the minister of science, education and sports, Milan Bandic, the mayor of Zagreb, and Ivan Suker, the president of the Croatian Basketball Association (HKS), as well as numerous basketball legends.

The president of Croatia praised the decision to make Croatia not only one of the hosts of the group stage of the championship, but also the host of the official opening ceremony.

- I hope that all national teams and their supporters will enjoy their stay in Zagreb and Croatia - she said.

This is the first time ever to organize Eurobasket in more than one country. The group stage of this competition will take place from September 5 to 10 in Berlin, Monpellier, Riga and Zagreb, whereas the eighth-finals and the rest of the championship will be organized in Lille, France between September 12 and 20.
