The Municipality of Bajina Basta has opened a tender for a preliminary design, detailed regulation plan and 3D visualization model of the future tunnel through the Kadinjaca hill.

The tunnel, which will be located on the border between the territories of Bajina Basta and Uzice, should shorten the route between the two towns by 6 km and reduce the time needed to travel between them by 15-20 minutes, as the projected vehicle speed in the tunnel is 80 km/h. It will also help drivers avoid a string of dangerous elbow-turns below Kadinjaca, which are often made impassable by snow.

The job has been estimated at RSD 48,688,423 without VAT, and Bajina Basta and Uzice were recently provided with RSD 40 million for the purpose by the Ministry of Economy.

– The project engineer will need to prepare all the necessary studies, analyses and other necessary documents in order for us to be able to present the requirements in negotiations with investors interested in the building of the most modern tunnel in Serbia – says project coordinator Ivan Markovic of the municipal administration of Bajina Basta.

He notes that the tunnel will be designed in line with European directives and models used in Germany in construction of similar structures. The winner will be selected by September 30, and the project submission deadline period is one year.

The tunnel will be 1,344 meters long and two bridges should be built as well, of 225 and 62 meters. The entrance from the direction of Bajina Basta, the access road included, would be located in the village of Zaglavak, whereas the exit would be located in Volujacko Polje in the territory of Uzice. The passage through the hill will bypass the section featuring the Memorial Complex Kadinjaca, dedicated to the soldiers of the Workers Battalion.

The general project was financed by the EU Office in Serbia with EUR 130,000.
