Subway construction in Belgrade to start in 2020? - Investment totaling EUR 4 billion

Mayor of Belgrade, Sinisa Mali, announced that metro construction can start in Belgrade in 2020 and that it takes at least three and a half years to build it.

After the presentation of the Belgrade Development Strategy until 2021, he outlined that he already had a meeting with the representatives of the French company Egis which should work on the Pre-visibility study.

Subway construction can start in 2020, Mali emphasized, adding that it is planned to do the first line of 22 kilometers and the second line of 20 kilometers, and the total investment is about EUR 4 billion.

The Mayor says that this is an investment that the city can fund and that for this purpose there is money in budget because it is a strategically important business.

When asked whether public-private partnership had been abandoned, he said there were several options: that the whole project is a public-private partnership, that everything was done through loan and perhaps the closest solution - that the City provides funds for construction works and that public-private partnership refers to software and compositions.
